Nick & Tom Special only lasts an afternoon at best. Not all of it, some of the bosses are still kind of tricky, but even if you bumble through it, Snow Bros. Being able to continue indefinitely in a game like this means that a lot of the challenge is removed. In the normal arcade mode, you play with unlimited credits. They’re reasonably similar to the original sprite work, but when I can’t play with a game’s familiar pixels, I feel like I’m being forced to accept a new look. There’s a survival mode and a time trial, but those are just different ways to play through the 80 levels.įinally, there’s a Monster Challenge mode, but that’s $10 DLC that should have been included in the main package. There are additional bosses, but I never found the bosses to be a particularly strong point of the original. Instead of bubbles, you have to cover your enemies in snow, then roll them into the other enemies. You’re playing as normal humans who have been turned into freaks. Whether or not it’s actually successful is probably going to come down to what you expect from such a return. However, years of less-than-fantastic arcade revivals have left me rather cynical, and, okay, maybe I was expecting the worst. Nick & Tom Special was announced, it caught my attention.
